Different Types Of Remote Pilot Licence
It is quite well known that if you want to fly a drone commercially (you want to make money from your hobby) you will need a remote pilot licence, in most cases.
*if your drone weighs under 2kg at take-off, you may not need a remote pilot licence. You can always contact our expert team to find out more or view the following link for Drone Government Regulation Information
However, one question we often get asked is, what are the different types of remote pilot licences available here in Australia?
There is only one remote pilot licence you need if you want to commercially fly your drone.
It is called the RePL.
What Is the Difference Between RePL and ReOC?
Put simply, the Remote Pilot Licence is the certification you need as an individual drone operator to commercially fly your drone.
The Remote Operators Certificate (ReOC) is the certification a business or organisation needs if they intend on operating drones commercially.
For example, if you accept a job with a company that has a ReOC, and they allow you to fly under their certificate, then you don’t need to have a ReOC. You only need to have your RePL.
However, if you plan on establishing your own drone business, and this includes sole traders, you will need both a RePL and a ReOC.
Do I Have to Have a Remote Pilot Licence?
There are a few situations where you won’t need a remote pilot licence, such as if the drones you intend to fly weigh under 2kg, if you are operating a drone on your own land that weighs under 25 kg (as long as you adhere to landholders rules) or if you are a hobbyist drone pilot who is not flying commercially.
However, if you do not fall into any of these categories, you are probably going to need a remote pilot licence.
But don’t worry, they are easy to attain with the help of a CASA certified Drone Training provider – especially if you use a high-quality drone training companies like Global Drone Solutions.
