Can I Fly My Drone Over Houses in Australia

The number of people that own a drone has drastically increased in the last few years. It’s no longer equipment for only professionals or drone licence-trained hobbyists. We are even seeing children who own drone equipment.

But did you know that there are laws and regulations in place when it comes to how and where you can fly your drone? These rules are not commonly known but they are there to protect the public and also other air crafts.

A question we often get asked here at Global Drone Solutions, is can you fly a drone over houses or private property in Australia? This is a hard no. Unless you have the property owner’s permission, or you own the property yourself you are not allowed to fly a drone in the area.

Here are the basic rules and regulations you will have to abide by if you are flying a drone.

  1. Drones can only fly to 120 metres off the ground
  2. You must keep your drone at least 30 metres away from other people & property
  3. You must be able to see your drone at all times with your own eyes
  4. If your drone weighs more than 250g you must keep it at least 5.5km away from a controlled airport
  5. If you are using your drone in a commercial capacity you must possess a valid drone Pilots license (RPL)

Although you don’t need a drone pilot licence if you are just a hobbyist it could still be a good idea to look into a drone course.

Here are some reasons why:

Flying A Drone

If you have flown a drone before, you know it’s not easy. At times it can feel like trying to control a car in a racing computer game, especially in the beginning.

By completing a drone licence course you can learn how to fly a drone safely in the hands of experts who know what they are doing.

Making Money

If you decide you would like to start a business or accept a job that utilises your drone flying skills you will already have your drone licence. So, it’s one less thing to have to worry about.

Understanding Australian Drone Laws

By taking part in a course, you will not only learn how to expertly maneuver your drone equipment but we will also help you to understand the rules around flying your drone. Some of these laws can be technical which makes them difficult to understand.

We help break everything down into easier-to-understand nuggets of knowledge.

Support

There’s something special about the support you receive by taking part in a drone flying course, not only from us and your expert teachers but also from the other students that are there for the very same reason you are.

It’s also a great opportunity to network with other professionals in the drone flying industry.

A drone license is not just for professionals but should be something that every person who operates a drone should have.
